Description

  • The Mission of the Las Mercedes Reforestation Project is to plant trees with the aim of preserving the natural ecology of rural Nicaragua, protecting the local wildlife, providing jobs to the local community, provide technical advice to local families to help them produce their own organic food, and to improve the wood resources for the future of the community.
  • The project began in 2009 and over 5000 trees have been planted so far.
  • Additionally the project has created awareness in the community and provided resources for the local school, the local clinic, a baseball team for young adults, and a small tree nursery.
  • By the rainy season of 2011, the project indends to plant 5000 more trees.
  •  The future plands are to work with the community to build a larger greenhouse for growing over 10,000 plants at a time. Additionally the project plans to build a center to host volunteers and community training programs.
