Description

  • The mission of the projectis to reforest mangroves that were damaged from the 2004 Tsunami.
  • The project aims to increase the resistance to flood disasters on the south west coast of Sri Lanka around the lakes of Madampe, Maduganga, Bolgoda, Maella, Malal, and Lungamwehera.
  • The project has created 21 tree nurseries, grown over 100,000 mangrove seedlings, and reforest 50 hectares.
  • Additionally, the project has been conducting environmental education programs. 
  • The project is conducted by the Global Nature Fund with support from the Foundation Ursula Merz and TUI / Futouris.
