Description

  • The mission of Iracambi is to restore native Atlantic Forest and to partner with local communities to improve quality of life, to "work with the community to make the conservation of the forest more attractive than its destruction."
  • Iracambi's mission is carried out through work in public policy, research, programs, and projects.
  • The 3 main project areas are: Forest Restoration, Natural Resource Management, and Alternative Income Generation.
  • Forest Restoration projects include corridor creation; Natural Resource Management projects include the Iracambi Geographic Information System (GIS) and Land Use assessments; and Alternative Income Generation projects include medicinal plant cultivation and ecotourism development.
  • Biological research conducted at Iracambi includes forest botany, endangered species, bird, mammal, and insect studies.
  • In addtion to researchers, Iracambi hosts students and interns.
