Description

The Profafor – FACE program includes several reforestation programs for climate change mitigation in Ecuador, financed by the public utilities and government of Holland. Many projects in Ecuador used exotic tree plantations.

The project in Nono began in 2006 and is located in the high montane forest area between Quito and Nanegelito. Plantings focused in areas of cattle pasture and were laid out in plantation rows of approximately 2-3 meter spacing.

Alnus acuminatawas the most commonly planted species. Alnus grew the fastest out of all species planted; other species struggled to compete with the fast growing pasture grass.
